Born Siphesihle Sithole in 1988, music has always been a big part of
Dilaska's life. Like many black kids from the townships who grew up in
the 90s, he was heavily influenced by Kwaito which is what radio was
mainly playing at that time.
He started being involved in making
music when he met long-time friend, group mate and business partner
Thembelani "JayTip" Gina in 2007 at the University of Zululand where
they were both studying. He equipped him with the necessary skills to
make muisc, taught him how to use Fruity Loops to make beats, Cubase and
Ableton to record. JayTip introduced him to two other MCs in UZ namely Galaxy and Farmboy, who together with JayTip decided to form a crew and called it Street Talent.
As Street Talent, they managed to garner a reasonable buzz. They were invited to be part of The Magic Tour sponsored by Ukhozi FM alongside nationally respected artists such as Pro (Kid), Professor, Big Nuz, Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Sean G etc.
He
produced one of Street Talent's most successful singles "Hey". He has
termed that epoch of his life and music career as "My deepest roots". As
some of the crew members graduated and took their separate ways, he got
time to focus on his solo craft. He got to perform in one of the
heaviest movements in the eMpangeni region at that time called
Salabesho(Salabe_Show) alongside artists such as Hobonoid, EMP Swagg
and a lot more gifted hip hop artists in that region. Late in 2009, he
left KZN and moved to Pretoria where he blazed the stage at HOUSE 22
which was a well known hip hop/Jazz/Poetry show that took place in Sunny
Side. He was blessed to be given a chance to open for the renown
Zuluboy who shook his hand after his (Dilaska's) performance with
Farmboy.
Towards the end of 2010, he moved to Cape Town where he
re-linked with JayTip who was at that time studying at the University of
Cape Town and was part of the UCT Hip Hop Club. Jay then introduced him
to the 'family' and they liked his craft. He then featured on their
2010 annual mixtape and also produced and featured on their 2011 one.
This got him recognition and respect in the Cape Town scene. He has
since perfomed along side a large number of respected artists in Cape
Town i.e. Driemanskap, Kanyi, Rattex, Youngsta, etc.
In 2011, together with JayTip, EC born Cape Town - based MC Maxhoseni, and Swazi-born Cape Town based MC/poet Sabza,
formed trilingual crew, Password Crew. The crew went on to release two
successful singles; Victory and Mamelani in that very same year.
Unfortunately in 2012, JayTip and Maxhoseni left Cape Town, but to this
day Password is still alive and kicking. It has become more of a musical
brotherhood than a crew.
As a producer, he has worked with artists
such as X The Green Panther, Psyko, Gudfellaz, PeeKay, Hobonoid, Sabza,
Andy Mkosi, Obie, Password Crew etc.
His own and produced songs have received airplay in stations such as Bush Radio, Inanda FM, Gagasi FM and SBIS (Swaziland). In 2012 he released his first solo project, "Drop A Tight Line EP".
